Kindergarten Registration
Whether you’re new to Oak Ridge 黄瓜视频 or your student has previously been enrolled at Oak Ridge 黄瓜视频 Preschool, we are excited to welcome you and your student to one of four outstanding elementary 黄瓜视频. Registration Information
Deadline to register: May 15
In order to begin registration you will need to complete important first steps listed below. Please note, if your student in enrolled at Oak Ridge Preschool, you will still need to register them online.
If your student is not yet five, and you do not have all the required medical forms yet, submit your registration application today so we can get you into our system and start providing you and your student with valuable resources.
- If you are new to Oak Ridge 黄瓜视频, you will need to Create an Account in our system in order to begin registration.
OR - If you already have a child in Oak Ridge 黄瓜视频, you will need to log on to your Skyward Family Access Account. You may also log in to your Skyward Family Access Account via Clever. Once logged in, “New Student Online Enrollment” will be the first item in the menu bar on the left-hand side. View a screenshot here. If you would like self-guided help with registration, you can view our “How To” Video (Spanish Version) or written instructions (Spanish Version) to walk you through the registration process. If you are still having difficulty, the front office at the school you are registering at. If you are not sure what school you are zoned for, please check this zone map.
As part of the online registration process, parents/guardians will be asked to upload images of the following documents:
- Birth Certificate
- Immunization Form
- Parent Photo ID
- Two forms of Proof of Residency – For more information on acceptable forms of Proof of Residency, please visit our registration page.
Registration Assistance
- If you do not have access to a computer or smart device with internet access, kiosks will be available in the lobby of each elementary school to facilitate the online registration process. Please contact your zoned elementary school to schedule a time to register by kiosk.
- If you do not speak English and need help with translation, please come to the district office at 304 New York Ave., Oak Ridge, TN 37830 Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- If your student is currently enrolled at Oak Ridge 黄瓜视频 Preschool, you must complete an online registration for your student to enroll in Kindergarten. A kiosk will be available at ORSPS if you require registration assistance.
Kindergarten Schedule
Doors Open: 7:45 AM
School Starts: 8:30 AM
Dismissal Time (M,T,Th,F): 3:30 PM
Dismissal Time (W): 1:30 PM
To ease the transition to Kindergarten and give educators time to construct balanced classrooms based on student personalities and needs, Oak Ridge 黄瓜视频 has a stagger start for its Kindergarteners. With a stagger start, students attend one half day during the first three days of school, then one full day, before beginning a full-time schedule. Bus transportation for Kindergartners begins on Wednesday, August 5.
The staggered start schedule for 2026-2027 Kindergarteners is below:
Students with last names A-F
- Half Day on Monday, July 27 (1:30 p.m. dismissal, students will eat lunch)
- Full Day on Friday, July 31 (3:30 p.m. dismissal)
- Begin following ORS Full time schedule on Wednesday, August 5 (normal District-Wide Early Dismissal at 1:30)
- Bus transportation for Kindergartners begins on Wednesday, August 5.
- No School on Thursday, August 6th District-Wide due to Voting Holiday
- Full-time enrollment beginning Friday, August 7
Students with last names G-O
- Half Day on Tuesday, July 28 (1:30 p.m. dismissal, students will eat lunch)
- Full Day on Monday, August 3 (3:30 p.m. dismissal)
- Begin following ORS Full time schedule on Wednesday, August 5 (normal District-Wide Early Dismissal at 1:30)
- Bus transportation for Kindergartners begins on Wednesday, August 5.
- No School on Thursday, August 6th District-Wide due to Voting Holiday
- Full-time enrollment beginning Friday, August 7
Students with last names P-Z
- Half Day on Wednesday, July 29 (1:30 p.m. dismissal, students will eat lunch)
- Full Day on Tuesday, August 4 (3:30 p.m. dismissal)
- Begin following ORS Full time schedule on Wednesday, August 5 (normal District-Wide Early Dismissal at 1:30)
- Bus transportation for Kindergartners begins on Wednesday, August 5.
- No School on Thursday, August 6th District-Wide due to Voting Holiday
- Full-time enrollment beginning Friday, August 7
Kindergarten Eligibility
According to Tennessee State Law, children must reach their fifth birthday by August 15 to be eligible for kindergarten. State law also requires that, prior to attending first grade, all children must have attended an approved kindergarten program.
A child who turns five after August 15, and before September 30, may be considered for early kindergarten enrollment. Applications for early Kindergarten Enrollment must be returned to Student Services by May 8, 2026.
- Parents/guardians may apply for consideration for early kindergarten enrollment by emailing the completed Early Kindergarten Enrollment Form to Dr. Amanda Tinker, artinker@ortn.edu, by May 8, 2026.
- Student Services will coordinate a date and time for screening to be conducted.
- After the screening is completed, the school principal, school counselor and Student Services Coordinator will review the results.
- If the results indicate that the child is “sufficiently mature emotionally and academically, the child may be enrolled in kindergarten.” (TCA 6.201)
- A letter to parents/guardians regarding the screening results and decision will be sent from Student Services.
