This course will emphasize <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">acad<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">emic learning goals and competencies that focus specifically on effective communication skills <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">that are essential in life and careers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"textLayer\"><strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">Keyboarding Rotation<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">\u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">6<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">th <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">grade classes will rotate through keyboarding for one nine<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">&#8211;<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">week <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-family: sans-serif;font-size: 1rem\">period. This is known as a <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">universal <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">screening <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">that is given 3 times a year to the whole school (Fall, Winter, and Spring) to determine the <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">students that fall at the 25<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">th <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">percentile or below for extra Tier 1 support<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">. If your child falls at or below <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">t<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">he 25<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">th <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">percentile your child will be placed in a Tier 2 or Tier 3 class in the areas of Math or English to <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">provide more support because they are performing below their grade level. The screening helps the <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">teacher work with students in small groups based on their <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">skill levels. The school will let you know if <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">your child is struggling and will update you on his\/her RTI progress. In some schools, the majority of <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">students need Tier 1 instructional support because their reading and math skills are not at grade level. <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">D<\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">uring the intervention, the RTI team monitors students\u2019 progress to see who might need additional <\/span><span class=\"textLayer--absolute\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;font-family: sans-serif\">support.
