The Tennessee School Board Association (TSBA) announced Brian Qu, a senior at Oak Ridge High School, as its East\u00a0District Student Recognition Award Winner. The award is given annually to a student from each of TSBA\u2019s nine regional districts who has achieved distinction in the areas of academics, community leadership, and engagement as part of its Student Recognition Award program.<\/p>\n

Qu is a Senior at Oak Ridge High School and has maintained a 4.0 GPA while serving as State President of the Mu Alpha Theta (MAT), Treasurer of the Oak Ridge City\u2019s Youth Advisory Board and member of the U.S. Math Honor Society. As a student, he developed the ORHS Scheduling mobile app that contains detailed course information and provides an easy way for students to build their schedules on their phones. He also developed the TSSAA Bowling app for schools across the state participating in the TSSAA Bowling Association. Qu helps at the Jefferson Middle School First Lego League (FLL) Boot Camp, and restarted the previously inactive Computer Science Club at ORHS.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am so proud of Brian and this well-deserved recognition,\u201d said Dr. Bruce Borchers, Superintendent of Oak Ridge Schools. \u201cHe has been an exemplary student throughout his academic career, dating back to his days as a Woodland Hawk and Jefferson Eagle. It has been an honor watching Brian grow and flourish, and we are all excited the impact Brian will make on the world after graduation.”<\/p>\n

In total, there are 23 districts in the East Region that Brian competed against for the award. As the Regional District winner, Brian becomes a finalist for the statewide Student Recognition Award to be presented at the TSBA Annual Convention in November, which will include a $2,000 scholarship.<\/p>\n<\/div>
