Phyllis Wheatley was the first African-American to publish a poetry book in 1773.<\/p>\n<p>Do you like hip hop music? Thank Sylvia Robinson because she produced the first commercially successful hip hop record \u201cRapper\u2019s Delight\u201d by the Sugar Hill Gang in 1979.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that Stevie Wonder was the first African-American to win a Grammy\u2019s Album of the Year? This happened in 1973.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you don\u2019t watch morning shows, you can appreciate Bryant Gumbel. He was the first African-American to host a network morning show in 1981, NBC\u2019s \u201cToday Show\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Super Bowl weekend is over, but did you know that Fritz Pollard was one of the first two African-American to play in the NFL? This happened in 1920. Pollard went on to become the NFL\u2019s first African-American coach.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, in 1996, Sheryl Swoopes, became the first player to ever sign with the WNBA.<\/p>\n<p>See you for next week\u2019s Black History Facts!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Stop by the booth during lunch this week to sign a Wildcat Paw and write a BE statement as we promote unity and love at ORHS. (M,T,Th,F) \u2013 A. King<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The YuGi-Oh! Club will meet on Friday until 4:30. Bring your cards to Dr. Colquitt\u2019s room CS 235, and be ready to duel. All students are welcome to attend. (2\/11-2\/12) \u2013 R.
