Don\u2019t miss this high school tradition!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>USA Biology Olympiad registration is now open for all ORHS students. We had a great turnout two weeks ago so please join us for assistance with completing the FAFSA needed for the TN Promise, Hope lottery and other financial aid in general. There are scholarships specific to ORHS students, through the East Tennessee Foundation and other local groups.\u00a0 Private corporate scholarships and scholarship search engines that will help you find opportunities for nearly every interest and post-high school education option.\u00a0 There is even information on career exploration and summer opportunities at some amazing schools.\u00a0 Stop by the Counseling Office and check out our Scholarship Section or visit our website:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ortn.edu\/highschool\/academics\/school-counseling\/testing-scholarship-and-career\/\">https:\/\/www.ortn.edu\/highschool\/academics\/school-counseling\/testing-scholarship-and-career\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Tee Higgins \u201cBe The Change\u201d Scholarship is designated for an African-American senior at Oak Ridge High School who is a Wildcat student-athlete and understands the importance of being \u201dAll In\u201d in order to achieve their dreams.\u00a0 All applicants should have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher and a minimum ACT score of 19.\u00a0 Application can be picked up in the Counseling Office.\u00a0 Submit your form and writing prompt to Mrs. Taylor in the Counseling Office by Friday, December 4, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>UT Promise is a last-dollar, undergraduate scholarship that will guarantee free tuition and mandatory fees to qualifying Tennessee residents enrolling in an undergraduate degree at UT campuses in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Martin and Memphis.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>This innovative scholarship will cover a student\u2019s last-dollar amount of tuition and mandatory fees after other financial aid is applied (such as Pell grants, HOPE Scholarship or other institutional scholarships) to students who qualify for HOPE and whose family household income is under $50,000 a year. UT Promise is a student-success oriented scholarship program that requires students to complete volunteer service hours and meet with a volunteer mentor each semester to ensure a successful student experience.\u00a0 Visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tennessee.edu\/ut-promise\/\">https:\/\/tennessee.edu\/ut-promise\/<\/a>\u00a0for more information.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The online application for the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship is available now at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/click.e.collegeboard.org\/?qs=87075df43318775c8b85638f8eaa73e4901efb80d470999375272d039c2f47ecf3c28d495b5890ac73aa93e0b24886f01b5a01fcef723df2\">jackierobinson.org<\/a>. Sobek<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Seniors, do you want to graduate with the Work Ethic Distinction? \u00a0This distinction will be useful for presentation to future employers for work-based learning, apprenticeships, and employment in a chosen field after graduation.\u00a0 Employers throughout Tennessee have indicated that students who present a document such as this, indicating desirable work habits, will be given preference for interviews.\u00a0 In order to earn such a distinction, students must exhibit certain characteristics by earning points on a Work Ethic Form.\u00a0 The application form is available in the school counseling office or via this link:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ortn.edu\/Curriculum\/CCTE\/Work_Ethic.pdf\">www.ortn.edu\/Curriculum\/CCTE\/Work_Ethic.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Students who attain at least 20 points on this form may deliver it at any time before April 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2020 to\u00a0Dr. Holly Cross at Oak Ridge High School, room CS244.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>For the TN Promise standard<\/em><\/strong>, for practicality, there is a statewide COVID-19 exception to the expectation to earn the volunteer hours before earning the Work Ethic Distinction this year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Most areas selected on the form can be verified in-house by Dr. Cross, once submitted. For those items that cannot be found in Skyward, students must present written verification of items selected.
