DID YOU KNOW ? – Senator Hiram Rhodes Revels, representing Mississippi, was the first African American to serve in Congress. Joseph Rainey, of South Carolina, was the first African American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and the first African American to preside over the House.\u00a0 In total, 153 African Americans have served in Congress,including 56 the now serve in what has been called the most \u201cethnically and racially diverse\u201d Congress in history. Stop by the library to learn more about African Americans and the Vote as we celebrate Black History Month 2020. (M) \u2013 C. Milloway<\/p>\n

The ORHS Key Club is collecting diapers, baby wipes, and teddy bears in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Oak Ridge. Diapers can be dropped off with a Key Club member or in Mr. Schoolcraft’s room, LC224. A collection box will also be set up in the office.\u00a0Collected items will be distributed to TORCH in Oak Ridge for their work with homeless persons. This drive will run through February 27.\u00a0(M,W,F \u2013 2.20)\u00a0 J. Schoolcraft<\/p>\n
